Me and my work

I have been working as a designing jeweller since 1982, and have been located in Ballina, NSW since 1995.  I was a finalist in the Australian Jewellers Association Diamond Awards 2000, and runner-up in the AP-JE-DA Awards 1999.

My design philosophy

Wax mold for ringI feel one-off pieces should reflect an individual’s personality – even an otherwise hidden trait, be it classicist, abstract, symmetrical, mathematical, random or flowing.

I often design a piece for an individual by eliminating what they don’t like, and building around materials eg. 2 and 3 tones of metals, particular gems, or just favoured shapes.

Occasionally I will carve out of wax a replica or model of a ring before I actually build it – you can sit your stone/s in it, put it on – an old technique by today’s computerised standards – but a real one.
